DESCRIPTION AND MEANING:

With the exception of rongo rongo pictograms from Easter Island, still mostly uncoded, there are no other samples of structured writing in Oceania, no alphabets.

In order to recreate the letters of the latin alphabet in a way that would seamlessly integrate into Polynesian designs we used Maori elements like koru and stylized waves, often cutting them out of the tattoo as in Maori designs.
On this account we called maorigrams the letters of this alphabet.

This maorigram of the name Simeon was requested by Lisa for a carving.
The sea shell on the right symbolizes love and safe shelter while the outlined koru on the right is a symbol of renewal and life.
The braided motif symbolizes family union.
