Dolphins are associated by Maoris to the joy of living, and have a deep meaning of protection which is nowadays made real by the new medical discoveries where dolphins help people with physical or psychical problems by swimming on their side.

There has always been a special relation between humans and dolphins, and many are the stories about dolphins helping people in difficulty.

They are very social animals, and they are held as bringers of joy.
