Design Story

This full sleeve tattoo was designed for Alessandro to integrate a tribal tattoo he had on the back of his arm and it tells his story.

Since the style of the existing tattoo was quite bold, we chose a mainly Marquesan style approach to balance it, integrating it with Tahitian elements.

The turtle represents his family, with him and his wife on the front fins, carrying forward the family and protecting their daughters drawn on the shell, with two S-shaped fish hooks near each one.
The flax leaves symbolize family unity, and so do the braids in front of the turtle, protected by the ancestors above, the tiki, and the all-seeing eye, while the star symbolizes direction and his passion, now his work.

At the bottom, the stones represent all the successes achieved thanks to his strength, tenacity, and determination (the hammerhead shark with spearheads and octopus tentacles), which have carried him along the journey represented by the flight of the albatross and by the row of birds, overcoming every challenge along the way (the path of Kamehameha).
An encounter along this voyage led him to a new path that culminates with the couple and the subsequent birth of their daughters.

Other elements incorporated are ipu inside the arm to represent the ancestors, the bath of Kena, coconut leaves, and fish as symbols of prosperity, and the palm leaves and mountains as symbols of the serenity and stability achieved.

The colored image below shows the main elements within the tattoo:
