Design Story
Face tattoos were to Maori people like an identity card, where merits of the bearer and of his ancestors were represented, as well as their deeds and social rank.
Since this tradition, called Ta Moko, is a sacred form of art with great spiritual significance and deeply personal motifs, we could not publish a real face tattoo and created instead this tribalized design of a stylized face tattoo following a request from Lally.
