Starfish have been assigned different meanings depending on the geographical area.
In Christianity, the starfish (Stella Maris) is associated to the virgin Mary, and represents love, delicacy and salvation.
Its proportions follow the "golden mean", a sort of perfect proportion, and that's why it has often been considered a symbol of perfection.
