The snake biting his tail appears in many different cultures since ancient times and his main meaning is eternal return, the cycles at the basis of eternal essence.

Some cultures depicted it as being half black and half white, to show the perfection existing in balancing opposites, in a very similar way to the Yin and Yang symbolism.
