Design Story

This halfsleeve tattoo symbolizes family union and protection and it mixes several Polynesian styles: Maori, Samoan, Fijian.

The two spirals in the upper part symbolize wife (who overcame a hard time with tenacity and determination) and husband (the manaia protecting the family, extending to the lower edge of the tattoo) always on her side against all adversities (the moray eel).

Flax leaves symbolize family union and the row of birds represents their life journey together.
Other elements are for prosperity and protection.

In the lower part, the armband, three turtles represent their children by incorporating different elements for each one of them.

The first turtle on the left includes a manta, a sun and a Marquesan cross for creativity, joy and balance, and a fish hook for prosperity and knowledge.

The central turtle has a hammerhead shark and spear heads for strength, tenacity and fighting spirit; tiki hands are for protection.

The turtle on the right includes a flower of hibiscus for beauty and grace, a sun for happiness and a stylized treble clef for music and dance.

Each turtle is connected to the others through the crossing front flippers that shape a twist (eternal bond).

The braid is another element representing this union.
