Design Story

This Polynesian short sleeve tattoo was designed for Andre to represent his life.

A turtle representing family is central, tilted to point to the front showing continuity in the future.
It is surrounded by a sun for joy and eternity, and by coconut leaves for prosperity, with the couple on the shell going together (braid and flax leaves for family unity) through all changes (the waves).

The manulua symbolizes the union of two families, and there are several enata around the turtle for close relatives.

The hammerhead shark represents the warrior reaching his goals (the star, with the ahuahu o Mataora symbolizing the steps to success); spearheads and octopus tentacles represent strength and adaptability, and the stepping stones at the base all his achievements.
A mere and an adze symbolize the values that guide him: respect, honor (the mere), and craftmanship (the adze).

There are difficulties in the past (the path of Kamehameha, the opposing waves, and some mountains upside down).

The row of birds symbolizes voyage, and they shape a koru for new beginning.
A row of fish symbolizes prosperity, and together they shape a disguised cancer symbol

The two tiki are protective symbols, and the two ipu below them (authority and prosperity) are placed and joined in a way that recalls a stylized bike.
Mountains next to it represent the hills and mountains where he lives.
