Design Story
Michael had our Toa tattoo on his shoulder and we designed this new part to extend it into a full Polynesian half sleeve tattoo
The frigate bird on top, aiming at the star within a sun, represents always having in mind a higher perspective as a way to reach enlightenment (the manta symbolizes freedom, elegance and beauty), with the ipu below symbolizing the universe and opposites, the union of matter and void.
The spearheads lead to the manta to represent how strength must find
a positive way to manifest itself into freedom and positivity (the sun).
Within the manta, the single bird facing the group of four symbolizes
individuality, choosing one's own path and being true to oneself, while
the lōkahi on the other side symbolizes that this is
related to harmony and balance with the world of spirits and nature.
Another important part of this path (the row of birds going into the future) is represented by the mere, a symbol of honor and respect associated here with the couple and with a Marquesan cross below it.
The lizard is a protective symbol that helps seeing beyond appearances, and the two tiki watching in opposite directions guard this path, followed with tenacity and strength (the hammerhead shark)
The ahuahu o Mataora symbolizes the steps along the path, and the stepping stones below are all the things learnt and achieved.
Fish and coconut leaves are symbols of prosperity, and shark teeth of strength and protection.
